My client Freedom Screens runs a national retractable fly screens manufacturing business with head office on the Gold Coast.  He has some unique, very cool retractable screen products:

We redeveloped his website recently, and now are turning our attention to some SEO fine tuning.  His site has a PR2 and ranks #1 for the head keyword phrase "retractable fly screens" but when you put geographical modifiers into this phrase, such as "retractable fly screens melbourne" they disappear off the first page altogether.  This is quite common in my experience.

We have a melbourne specific page within the store locator function, so we’ve done a little KW research and put in a proper title tag and description to this page.  I’m just waiting to get a little more content from the branch owner, and hopefully some pictures!

The page will target the phrases: retractable fly screens melbourne, fly screens melbourne, retractable flyscreens melbourne and retractable insect screens melbourne. 

We’ll see how this goes!

I used to be a radiographer and then worked as a hospital manager for quite a few years, so I guess maybe its appropriate that my team have dubbed me "The Google Doctor for Local Business"!

Of course I’m humbled (shucks!) but I guess it might just stick, because we’ve been getting SO many of our clients sites, and our own "pre-ranked" Webestates sites ranked #1 in really short order, AND getting great traffic and leads, its even amazing me!

For instance, we just leased one of our WebEstates sites to one lucky local business owner in Melbourne.  The site is:

It’s ranked #1, AND #2  for the term "skin cancer clinic melbourne" as well as ranking well for some other terms.  It’s getting around 600 unique visitors a month and sending some nice new leads, traffic and enquiries to its new "owner" Nitai Medical and Cosmetic Centre in Glenroy Victoria – Nice results indeed!

Here are the results after only two and a half months.  In fact, these results were achieved earlier than this, just I haven’t checked in until now   Here are the terms I was targetting with two SEO Pages hooked up to our special back-linking program:

White Card Western Australia  (same page)

White Card South Australia   (same page)

Ok, so here are the results:

For "white card WA":
In Google ranked #1, #2, and #3, with the above SEO page #3.  Check the results out in Google here. I think you could safely say we OWN that phrase in Google now!

For "white card western australia":
Not so exciting here, we are only number 5  More work neeeded here, so what I will do is make some adjusments to my back-linking program and target that phrase even more, till we are number one for that as well!

For "white card sa"
This has worked well, we are ranked number 1 for this phrase, even above the SA Worksafe Government web page – I love that!!

For "white card south australia":
Here we exchange spots with the SA Govt site, they are #1 and I am #2!  Only fair?  No way!!  I’ll knock them off their perch easily!

Action from here:  Target the two terms we’re not ranking #1 for, with more back-link huice using our $220/mth back-linking program.  EASY!

• Understands the value of a qualified lead (someone who has gone to the trouble of typing in a highly relevant, geographical search term into Google);
• Is savvy enough to be able to follow up on email leads quickly! (Ignored leads lose their value more and more every hour!!)
• Has some basic phone tracking systems in place so they ask callers where they found out about their business and record this information (so you can track lead generation sources and costs effectively);
• Understands that it’s worth spending up to a few hundred dollars to get a multi-thousand dollar sale! (You’d be surprised just how many business owners do not "get" this!)

Here’s how the system might work for you…

Over the month, you might get 100 to 200 clicks (for example only).  This might cost you $150 to $300 paid to Google.  From these clicks, you might get maybe 5 to 10 phone calls, and lets say 5 email leads.  You promptly follow up all of these with a well crafted system that positions your company as the best value provider in your area, and you outline the benefits (to the new lead) of doing business with your company (using a structured system like this can help you overcome those pesky price shoppers!).

So even at 20%, you’re collecting $600 nett profit X two, which equals $1200, for a lead generation cost of $150 to $300, PLUS you’ve now got two new customers you would not have had before!  These customers can refer their friends to you, etc. etc. (Hint:  do you have a system for this as well?!)

Bear in mind the above figures, are really BAD figures!!  If you have a good, well priced product, and good sales systems, you should be able to convert much more than this, but thats another story!

Well I’ve been down in Sydney for a few days to visit my daughter, so tonight is Saturday night and I’m just online for a little bit having watched a movie with my wife, my duaghter Clair and her husband Prav.

OK, it’s now midday on the day after I did what I recorded in my post last night.

All the pages and sites have been indexed overnight!  In fact they were all indexed first thing this morning.

How?  Because I linked to themfrom a couple of sites with some authority.  Simple as that!

One or two of the pages are already ranked on the first page of Google for the targeted terms.  So we will now watch them over the next week or so until they find their way into the top 3!

One of my online learning businesses offers WH&S training online for the construction industry.  We provide the so-called "White Card" which is a prerequisite for entry onto a construction site.

Because of good SEO, we dominate Google totally for related keywords with our sites White Card Online and White Card Australia including:

white card (#1 and #2)  (Global search has 82 million competing pages!) 
white card online (#1, #2, #3 and #4)
white card australia (#1 and #2)
etc. etc.

These three keyword phrases and a few others account for the majority of the traffic, BUT, I noticed there are LOTS more, as I started to dig around and do some current keyword research.  [Important NOTE:  as the White Card has been a new thing search volumes are increasing as more and more people find out about it through word of mouth etc.  This is proven in the Google Trends graph below]:

So we’re targeting some other terms that do get some decent licks of traffic, (ie around 500 uniques a month).  To do this I knocked up 2 "SEO pages" on our highest Page Rank site:

White Card South Australia   (same page)

Also I found out that even though its been over a year since the introduction of White Card in Queensland, there is still a lot of search activity based on the old Blue Card terms.  We had our old Blue Card Online site languishing and neglected, so I’m getting that renovated with a nice shiny new design, – watch this space:  Blue Card Online.  And we’ll start building our a big range of keyword phrases in this niche, using the SEO page approach.

So apart from BlueCardOnline.com.au which is an established site. all these others above are linking to brand new pages, none of which are yet even indexed.

I expect that to change in the next 24 to 48 hours.  Will keep you posted!

This week my other company Urban E-Learning (co-owned with my business partner Steven Asnicar) was engaged by the AMAQ to fast track the development of a website designed to provide information to the public about local hospital "indicators".  We took the brief and registered the domain name on Monday afternoon, and by Wednesday at midnight, the site was completed!  It was launched today with lots of media engagements, resulting in it being a lead story on Channels 7, 9 and 10 this evening.

The site came up really well, our client, the CEO of AMAQ was wrapped in it.
