PPC Profits!

For certain businesses, Pay-Per-Click dvertising such as Google Adwords and Yahoo! Search can provide excellent value.  For more about PPC marketing please view our videos 6 and 7 in our free training package.

PPC typically suits business which sell products or services with higher profit margins.  Examples might include information products or softwares, that have low cost of delivery.  Some of my clients who do well with PPC also include companies in the solar energy, house removals, and B2B photo supplies industries, but these are just a tiny fraction of representative businesses that can profit very nicely from PPC.

Many business owners have "tried" Google Adwords and not achieved the results they desired.  This may be because PPC is fundamentally not suited to their industry, OR it simply could mean that they have not implemented a PPC campaign that is optimal.  There are many mistakes that can be made with a PPC campaign and there is much knowledge and skill required to produce an optimal PPC campaign.

clicks-increase-2nd-apr1This is a graph from the account of one of my clients over the last month.  On the 2 nd April we "turned-on" a completely re-structured Campaign but it was based on exactly the same keywords as had been originally used for many months.  So this graph genuinely does not represent any extra keywords.  Nor does it involve raising spend limits, as the spend limit of this total campaign is the exact sum of the previous total spend limits.

Now let’s look at something really interesting – Click through rate (CTR)?

And this was not a poorly performing campaign to start with – it had actually been serving the company quite well.  But imagine how much better this is going to be now! (Conversions are continuing as a consistent % of clicks which I cannot share for confidentiality reasons, but it’s pretty impressive!).

These results come from having the campaign professionally restructured. here are some of the things we did:

  • Set up multiple, "tight" Ad groups for small groups of keyword phrases
  • Setup Ads with the keyword phrase in the headline
  • Setup at least 1 split test Ad for each Adgroup, so that Ads can be tested and improved consistently over time.
  • Wrote more appealing Ads
